9 Ways To Keep Your Dog Entertained
The summer is almost over, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to end!
Every dog (and parent) loves to be happy and entertained (especially during this heat!)
That's why Mikayla and I wanted to share with you our top 9 ways to keep your best friend engaged and mentally stimulated this summer.
We’ve broken these tips down into the following three categories: Interactive Games, DIY Toys and Mental Stimulation Exercises. Let’s dive into them!
Interactive Games, are a great way to bond with your best friend, while keeping them thoroughly entertained.
Some of our favorite games include:
Playing Hide and Seek: Hide treats or favorite toys around the house or in the yard for your dog to find. Start with easy spots and gradually increase the difficulty.
Fetch (but with a Twist): Use a ball launcher for extra distance or try different types of balls to keep things interesting. You can also hide toys and make your dog find them before starting the game.
Duel it out in a game of Tug of War: This classic game provides physical exercise and mental stimulation. Use a sturdy rope or tug toy for safe play.
(We recommend using your hands and not your teeth for this game 😉)
Next we have DIY Toys. These DIY Toys are a great (and cheap) way to keep your best friend entertained.
Some of our favorite toys include:
Tennis Ball Treat Dispenser: Cut a small slit in a tennis ball, fill it with treats, and let your dog roll it around to get the goodies out.
Frozen Treats: Freeze a mixture of dog-safe ingredients like peanut butter and yogurt in ice cube trays for a refreshing and interactive treat.
Sock Puppet: Turn an old sock into a squeaky toy by placing a tennis ball inside and securing it with a knot. Your dog will love the squeaks!
Finally we have Mental Stimulation Exercises. These exercises help your dog learn AND keeps them from being bored.
Our favorite exercises are:
Training Sessions: Teach your dog new tricks or practice obedience commands. Mental workouts are just as tiring as physical ones!
Puzzle Toys: Invest in or create puzzle toys where your dog has to work to get treats out. These challenge their problem-solving skills.
Scent Games: Hide treats or toys around the house and encourage your dog to find them using their keen sense of smell.
Remember, every dog is unique, so experiment with different activities to find what your furry friend enjoys the most.
We hope these ideas bring joy and excitement to you and your beloved pet!
Have a paw-some time playing together!
