Can You Believe This?...
Okay, I know what you’re thinking…
“A skunk?!”
Trust me, this is not as stinky as it sounds, but I promise this story is worth the read…
Let me start from the beginning…
As part of our mission to support dogs everywhere, Mikayla and I regularly visit shelters across the country, donating ShawnCo products and funds to help dogs in need.
(We also love to share all of the adorable faces we meet on social media in the hopes that someone (maybe you? 👀) will find their new best friend…)
Anyway, a couple weeks ago, Mikayla and I took a road trip to visit a shelter we hadn’t been to before.
And as we wandered through the rows of wagging tails and puppy-dog eyes, we spotted…a skunk…
Okay, not an actual skunk, but a black and white little guy with the cutest uneven ears named Skunk.
As he was curled up alone in his crate, looking utterly defeated, we realized that the poor thing clearly had kennel cough…
And to make matters worse we later learned that his ears and tail had been cruelly cut off before the shelter rescued him. 😢
Seeing this poor little guy in this state, we knew we couldn’t just walk away…
So Mikayla and I asked to take him out for a walk, and as soon as we slipped on one of our ShawnCo Essential Harnesses, Skunk transformed.
He started bouncing around like a little bunny, with his nub of a tail wagging like crazy.
And for the first time in who knows how long, he looked happy.
The shelter staff told us that Skunk had been absolutely inconsolable ever since his mom and siblings were adopted…
He sat alone crying all day and night, just waiting for someone to choose him…
Cue the heartstrings…
So I looked at Mikayla, and she looked at me, and without saying a word we both knew this little guy was coming home with us.
Of course, we needed to make sure Elvis was cool with the new addition (he runs a tight ship, you know).
But after a few sniffs and a brief stare-down, Elvis gave his stamp of approval.
After we got skunk home (we quickly learned why the shelter named him that…🦨) he really started to come alive…
He ran circles around the backyard, inhaled his new food, and discovered the magic of belly rubs…
Skunk had finally found his forever home…
A few nights later, the four of us curled up on the couch and started watching Lilo & Stitch.
And in a moment of pure Disney magic, staring at the uneven-eared, knobby-tailed Stitch on screen who loved Elvis Presley, it hit us…
Skunk wasn’t a Skunk anymore, he was Stitch.
Because, as we all know, Ohana means family, and family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten… ❤️
So without further ado, please give a warm welcome to Stitch the Rescue!
We’re so excited for you to meet him, and expect to see a LOT more of this perfect angel on our socials.
We hope he warms your heart as much as he’s already melted ours.
(And don’t worry…no actual skunks were harmed in the making of this email.) 😆
